About the Alliance
The Housing Rights & Reform Alliance is an organisation to facilitate independent candidates standing in local elections.
The Alliance will bring focus to the issue of social and affordable housing, in all its aspects, this is a key responsibility of local government.
We do not operate a ‘whip‘, as the Political Party system does, we are organised to address the specific agenda outlined in our ELECTION STATEMENT and in our adopted Rules and Constitution. We do not promote any ideologies, either ‘left‘ or ‘right‘, our approach is to respect individual thinking but to unite around the main issues that affect us collectively.
We are concerned with proper governance, holding both officials and elected members to account. Councils waste millions of euro on non-essential projects, leaving service to communities, tenants and small domestic business short.
Individuals are encouraged to join, not just election candidates, to build a movement that facilitates popular participation in local decision making.
Our Alliance is for the reform of local Councils, to ensure that they serve and represent the people, not any vested interests; and that they operate openly and democratically, and with full accountability, this is a central part of our programme.
