Cork City South East

Diarmaid is an existing member of Cork County Council, he is Deputy Chairperson for the Cobh Municipal District and has worked actively with the following Special Policy Committees:

Arts, Culture & Language SPC
Environment SPC
Tourism SPC
Housing SPC

He runs his own website here.

Biographic information on Cllr Diarmaid Ó Cadhla is available here.

Diarmaid has over 30 years successful business experience, as a consultant in the IT sector, specialising in financial systems design and implementation.

Since his student days, in the then RTC (now CIT) and later in UCC, Diarmaid has been socially active and has always worked to improve the lot of ‘cos muintir na tíre‘, the citizens.  He became the first ever student to be appointed as a member of the Board of Management of Cork RTC.

Diarmaid is offering his broad business experience, his experience as a member of Cork County Council, and his experience in managing Ionad an Phobail, the Community Resource Centre at 99, Douglas Street in seeking election to Cork City Council.

Diarmaid has been a leading member of our political community, he played a leading role in the campaign to Boycott Irish Water, he is currently a leading campaigner for housing rights – he led the successful protest to have the Homeless Persons Unit at Drinan Street closed down (it was a horrible, disrespectful facility).

Cllr Diarmaid Ó Cadhla is currently secretary of An Gorta Mór Memorial Project Group, organising annual commemorative events and working to have a fitting monument erected in Cork city in remembrance of our ancestors lost.  Diarmaid has highlighted the sorry neglect which our city has shown the approx 100,000 victims of An Gorta Mór in Cork, this was the most traumatic event in the history of our country.

As a Council member, Diarmaid has cost the public less than any other member, and he has been the most active, in terms of motions put before Council.

Tá Gaeilge ag Diarmaid, agus bíonn sé chun tosaigh maidir le cearta teanga agus i gcónaí ag baint úsáid as, nuair is féidir.

Tá cás san Ard Chúirt faoi láthair ag Diarmaid, ag iarraidh cearta teanga a chinntiú go ginearálta don Ghaeilge, agus ceart Breithimh le Gaeilge a bheith ar fáil d’aoinne a dteastaíonn sé uatha.

Is ball the coiste speisialta d’Ealaíon, Cultúr & Teanga de Chomhairle Contae Chorcaí é Diarmaid, agus dul chun cinn déanta aige ann.

Cllr Ó Cadhla’s work can be reviewed on his personal website.
